HIGH RISE is a 90-minute multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural theatrical experience that borrows from theatre, musicals, hip-hop, and real life stories about growing up in a 19 story high rise in Toronto. Set in one of Canada’s most culturally diverse, poor, and violent neighborhoods; the show explores what happens when you pack hundreds of young people from the four corners of the earth into a single apartment building. Based on real stories, and performed by top urban artists, HIGH RISE reveals the clash of cultures, chaos, and energy of life in a low-income neighbhourhood. Told through theatre, spoken word, hip hop music, Bhangra and Caribbean dance, the piece features 19 characters that highlight neighbourhood tensions: one ethnicity versus another, the old versus the young, the community versus the police, the Bloods versus the Crips, and desperation versus hope.
